There are a lot of people living in spiritual limbo these days and there are many reasons why. Some are there because we have chosen to sit back and ‘let things happen’ or just let the cards fall where they may. Some are there because they catch glimpses of what God has in mind for them but somehow the vision never becomes reality. Some are there because the enemy has attacked them and it has been very discouraging. Some are there because they do not know what to do after they come to Jesus.
I do not think God desires us to be in spiritual limbo. I believe God has more in mind for us! He intends that we know the thrill of spiritual liberation!
The one thing that helps me the most when I get feeling this way is to remember that my relationship with God is more important than my religion. I saw the following statement on a t-shirt once and have been using it ever since, “It’s against my relationship to have a religion.” That might sound weird to some but it is all about our relationship with God through Jesus that matters the most. I often tell myself that it is more important for me to worry about what God thinks about me than what others think.
The problem with worrying about what God thinks of you is that you need to know what God thinks about you! How do you know that? The most obvious answer is that you get to know Him. How do you get to know Him? Just like you get to know anyone else, you spend time with them. By reading God’s Word and by spending time in a Bible-believing church with Bible-believing Christians you are going to get to know God in a whole new way.
What does God think about you?
He loves you regardless of anything you have done! He loves you so much that He made a way for your salvation! He sent Jesus into this world to be a sacrifice for our sins and provide forgiveness and eternal life.
God thinks you are valuable. He is the Creator, you are His creation He breathed into your nostrils the breath of life, Genesis 2:7. He created you in His own image, Genesis 1:27. He knit you together in your mom’s womb, Psalm 139:13. He knows how many hairs are on your head, Matthew 10:30. (Knowing the number of hairs on my head is an easy task!) He has crowned us with His glory and honor! Psalm 8:5
And He knows the plans He has for us,
“For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the Lord, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.” Jeremiah 29:11 NIV
We can get out of spiritual limbo and get into spiritual liberation by knowing what God thinks about us!
